A few years ago I went to see a doctor who gave me the news that not only did I have high blood pressure, but I was morbidly obese. The term “Morbidly Obese” really hit hard. I took a look at myself in the mirror – something I had been avoiding for a while – and said, “when did that happen?!” My ankles were falling over the sides of my shoes. I was buying clothes from the men’s department because I couldn’t find anything in the women’s department to fit me. I joined Innovative because I knew I needed help. I needed equipment. I needed encouragement. By August 2015, I had dropped 75 pounds. Then, on October 8, 2015 I suffered a bleeding stroke, which caused weakness in my right side. I wasn’t able to walk and had very limited mobility in my arm and had speech problems. After being in a rehab hospital for four days, doctors told me I would most likely be in a wheelchair for the rest of my life.
I made up my mind to prove them wrong. The next week I was at Franklin Rehabilitation. They introduced me to a walker and within two weeks I was using a walker. After I continued progressing, they introduced me to different machines at Innovative to improve my leg and arm strength. Now, around the house, I don’t need a cane at all. My favorite machines are the Nu-step and the sitting elliptical because they help me regain the strength in my right leg. The first time I was in the therapy pool, I was hanging onto side of pool for dear life. Now I’m walking around the pool for exercise and gaining my balance back. Between Franklin Rehab and Innovative Health & Fitness I have gotten back to approximately 70 percent of the person I was before I had the stroke. I continue to lose weight. I’ve lost 136 pounds and went from a size 26 to a size 16. I’m not at my goal yet, but I’m getting there. I’m gaining strength. My blood pressure is lower. I’m a different person than who I was in October.
Thank you, Franklin Rehabilitation and Innovative Health & Fitness for helping me prove my doctors wrong!
