With the new year always comes new goals when it comes to health and well being. But how do we stick to them? Luckily there are evidence-based strategies to help.
The first step is to set a specific goal. You may have heard of SMART goals (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based). This could look like the following: “My goal is to hold myself and others accountable to working out, so I will go to INNOV8 3x per week, every week for small group fitness.”
The next step is to create a “cue-based” plan. For example, every week when planning out your schedule, make it a habit to book your personal training sessions at the same time. This will create a reminder and allocate time to achieve your goal.
In order to stay consistent try to make it fun and flexible. Life happens to all of us, so be sure to include doing things you enjoy like going to swim classes or using the recovery room. Including variety in your schedule and activities can help keep your habits fresh versus eventually becoming mundane.
