Summer events are now in full swing – from picnics to festivals, keeping to a healthy eating routine can certainly get a bit harder. Here are some tips from our nutrition team on how to deal with eating and drinking events while still enjoying yourself.

Maintain similar meals and snacks prior to event, don’t skip meals to use as an excuse to over indulge later

Stay on track for water consumption, make healthier choices for alcohol intake. Avoid soda’s, high sugar blended drinks, and high calorie beers. Other alternatives to turn to are seltzers, lower calorie beer.

Bring healthy meal & snack alternatives such fruit, veggie, protein options (non processed if possible!!)

When filling your plate, start with fruits, veggies, and protein. Stick to appropriate portion sizes

Limit yourself to one dessert option
Know your limit, and don’t use food as the center of the event (play games, get outside, be active, don’t hang out in the kitchen)
