People underestimate the amount of strain poor posture has on your body and how much it contributes to injuries and pain.
Poor posture during your everyday activities like sitting at work, standing in line, walking at the grocery store, lifting things, looking after the kids, watching TV can seriously affect your life in the long run
Posture is simply the position of your body during everyday activities. It is the way you hold your head and shoulders as well as your back arched or rounded. Your posture is affected by your position (lying, standing, sitting) as well as the movement of your legs and arms when you are busy.
Having good posture puts the least amount of stress on your body which allows you to decrease the strain and increase the blood flow to areas to hopefully prevent injury like neck/back pain, sciatica, shoulder pain, and knee pain. Having good posture involves training your body to move in a way where gravity puts the least amount of strain on your muscles and joints when you are going about your daily routine.
If you do not watch your posture it puts a lot of extra strain on your body which can cause herniated discs, sciatica, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, knee pain and all sorts of other chronic pain and fatigue. This makes your everyday life a lot harder than it has to be.
Correcting your posture is not a quick fix. Bad posture is a bad habit and needs to be fixed. By fixing your posture you will be helping your body in the long run. To help with your posture, be sure to stand up straight, sit up straight (use the back rest on your chair if available), and get up and move (staying in one place puts a lot of strain on your body). General rule of thumb is to get up and move when sitting about every 30 min for a few stretches or a couple min of walking.
